Nearly twenty colleges from around the northeast visited seniors from Hudson High School on Tuesday afternoon. This is an annual event that continues to grow in popularity with the students and the college admissions staff. Due to its recent growth, it has been moved to the gym this year as opposed to the library, where it was located in the past. Seniors get the entire afternoon to speak with college admissions counselors who are recruiting our students to attend their learning institutions next fall.
After an eight year hiatus, the long standing tradition of the Hudson High School Homecoming Bonfire was reinstated last night. A great night was had by all as the spirit of the student body at HHS continues to impress the community. A special thanks to the Hudson Fire Department, George Keeler, Tim Van Keuren, Ellen Miller, Jodi Keyser, Gerry Wood, Bob LaCasse, Superintendent Maria Suttmeier, HCSD BOE members and the coaches and athletes who participated last night.
On Wednesday, October 9th, students and staff from Hudson High School wore orange to unite against bullying and bring awareness to students who have been bullied in school. October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month and HHS decided to join forces the National Bullying Prevention Center to promote their annual Unity Day by wearing the color orange. Students from the HHS Gay Straight Alliance gave out orange ribbons to support the cause.
Ms. Brust and Mr. Cukerstein's classes took a virtual field trip with their Humanities and AP World 10 classes today in the library. The Field Trip was organized between the two teachers, Terry Harcleroad, HCSD Technology Director, and Penn Museum, located in Phildelphia, PA. The students were taken through the process of ancient Egyptian embalming by museum educators. Using fabricated mummies, students got to explore mummification as they witnessed each step of the process including brain removal, evisceration, desiccation and wrapping. Students were also able to ask questions at the end of the presentation as well as interact with the presenters throughout the demonstration.
The Living Environment 10E class was put to the challenge of constructing an egg protection system to protect eggs from a drop of 6 ft high. The goal of the project was to have students go through the scientific method process in order to solve a problem. Each team of 4 students was required to represent a university of their choice and brainstorm an idea for their egg protector. This became their hypothesis. Then they wrote a grant proposal that must have been approved before they could continue. They designed, built and tested their egg protection systems and wrote a formal lab report. Finally, they demonstrated their product to the class and many groups even chose to test their product further by dropping the eggs from heights above 6 ft.
A huge thank you to Coaches Chuck Peters, Mary Hunter and the Hudson High School Volleyball Team for playing yesterday's game in honor of former HHS Volleyball player Erica Wordon ('07). The Bluehawks beat Germantown in straight sets 26-24, 25-22 and 25-13 and was led by Cori Jepsen, Nae Nae Sheard, Kelsey Alvarez and, Veronica "the Mayor" Mayhew. The fundraiser generated over $1,200, which will be donated to Erica to aid with her medical expenses.
