Mr. Gavin and I have worked hard during the summer to ensure that the school is ready to open with as few conflicts as possible and so far that has been the case. If you are new to the school, please stop in my office and introduce yourself. Students, please review the student handbook and ask me any questions to prevent any future issues due to confusion. Parents, all students should have received a folder containing several forms that to be completed and returned to the school ASAP.
Now that the dust has settled, last minute schedule changes have been made, students are familiar with the building, classes and teachers, it is time to get to work. As you know, the requirements for graduation are more rigorous than ever. Students not only need 22 credits, but also must pass five Regents exams to graduate. Even with another reduction in staff, changes have been made to the schedule to allow for increased student achievement and maximizing contact time with faculty throughout the day.
I am exciting about the upcoming school year and look forward to continuing the gains that have been made over the last two years as I have been your Associate Principal.
Just to mention a few:
1) 3% increase in graduation rate two years ago
2) Possibly a 6-7% increase in graduation rate last year
3) 96% passing rate on the ELA Regents
4) 6% increase in Geometry Regents
5) 17% increase in Chemistry Regents
6) 86% passing rate in Living Environment Regents
7) 86% passing rate in US History and Government Regents
8) 8% increase in Algebra 2/Trigonometry Regents
9) 27% increase in Physics Regents
10) 24% reduction in Out of School Suspension
11) 11% reduction in fighting/altercations
